Dog Clothes - What's most important?

What is most important with dog dresses, dog coats, dog collars and other dog items?

Dog Dresses & Dog Coats
Some people will dress up their dogs in cute, adorable dog dresses for fun and others get practical dog coats to help their dog stay warm in the winter.  I have admit, I tend do both.  I love the frilly, pretty dresses on dogs and also I'll send a warm coat to a dog in a really cold climate to keep him warm when it gets near or below freezing outside.

Believe it or not, there are people out there who will never put an item of clothing on a dog.  Jay Leno has a constant complaint about dogs being dressed up.  I agreed with him for a long time, but then I saw how happy my dog was when he put on a T-shirt.  He danced around and was loving it.  Go figure.  He made me a convert to the dog clothes set.

Dog Collars
There are so many dog collars out there on the web for sale. Leather dog collars are practical, simple and last a long time providing your dog doesn't chew on it.  There are even hand beaded dog collars, using the finest seed beads in the world to make them.  There are even embroidered dog collars that put your dog's name and your phone number right in the collar.  As long as your dog keeps the collar on when he gets lost, the person who finds him can call you and let you know where to pick him up!  Then there are the plain old, everyday nylon collars that every grocery store sells.  Which are you using?  Are you a practical type, a concerned type or the person who loves to doll it up?

Shopping for Dog Clothes
Oh boy!  Prices for dog clothes, collars, leashes and other items are all over the place! You can spend hundreds of dollars on a dog dress or even dog googles or pick up a cheap import in the grocery store.  Quality varies greatly, but is a $200 dog dress really worth all that?  It seems to me that sooner or later Rover is going to get sprayed by a skunk anyway, and I'd rather be out only $40.  Maybe it is just me, but does a dog really need a $150 pair of dog goggles?  What the heck is up with that whole goggle idea anyway?  Sure, it looks funnier than all get-out, but does the dog really want those things?  Maybe I just haven't been converted yet.

Dog Clothes
What do you look for in dog clothes?  Are you looking to have the best dressed dog on the block?  Do you just want to keep your dog warm in the winter snow?  Is dressing your dog like keeping up with the Jones Family for you?  Or are you dressing your dog just to make him/her and you happy - just having a little fun?
